Mark Santoro for Cupertino City Council

Mark Santoro Biography

Mark was born on May 18, 1957 in Miami Florida. His family moved to California when Mark was 5. He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America where as leader his patrol placed first in three straight camporees. Later, as the senior patrol leader of his entire troop he became the chairman of the first all-boy-run camporee, an event that took 14 months to organize and hosted more than 500 scouts. A knee injury in high school forced Mark from pole vaulting and football into more academic pursuits.

Working nights for a local newspaper Mark put himself through school. He eventually earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University. Mark held design positions at several companies in the Bay Area, including Apple and Sun Microsystems, before starting his own company in January of 1995. Mark served as CEO until the sale of his company in December of 2000.

Mark purchased some property in Cupertino in 2001 where he built his home. The experience of building a home taught him a lot about Cupertino government. He now wants to give something back to the city of Cupertino.
